VIVID® Virtual In-Vehicle Information Display - Tire Presssure Video Overlay

Tire Sensor Installation and Deletion Instructions:

Note: Do not install the tire sensors until instructed to.

Pre-installation:

When tire sensors are installed, they recognize that pressure as their BASELINE pressure. Tire pressure at the time of installation is important and all tires MUST be inflated to the recommended cold pressures.  The tire sensors must then be installed on the tires while they are still cold.  Failure to install at this "cold" temperature may cause false alerts.

Tires and valve stems should be carefully inspected prior to installation of the system to ensure that they are in good condition.  Defective valve stems must be replaced.  The dill valve (the small valve inside the valve stem) MUST DEPRESS FULLY AND RELEASE AIR FOR THE SENSOR TO ACTIVATE.  The Sensor will not activate properly if the dill valve is not at the proper length. A dill valve can be inserted too far into the valve stem preventing a release of air.  The dill valve should be centered (not off center) so it will not slip to one side when screwing down the tire sensor.  This does not allow the dill valve to properly open pressure to the sensor.  Check the dill valve by depressing it with the edge (end) of a thumbnail to make sure it releases air.  At times, it may be necessary to clean the threads of the valve stem with a wire brush before installing the tire sensor.

Sensor Installation:

Use the UP and DOWN buttons to cycle through the tires.  A wrench icon indicates that the sensor has not been installed on the tire yet.  A check mark icon indicates a sensor has been successfully installed on the tire previously.  When the blinking cursor is located on the tire to install the sensor on then press ENTER.  Follow the on-screen instructions.

Tighten sensor firmly by hand.  Using a tool to tighten can damage the sensor and voids the warranty.  Hold valve stem with fingers or pliers if necessary.  Listen for the “release” of air when screwing on the sensor.  Continue tightening until finger tight.  With the sensor screwed on the on-screen tire will display a pressure reading for that tire.  This initial pressure reading sent from the sensor is the baseline pressure.  (The sensor will alert at a pressure loss of 12.5% below this initial reading and again at 25%.)

It can take up to one minute for VIVID® to recognize the tire sensor.  At any time the MENU button can be pressed to abort the installation process. For each tire installation completed a “SENSOR INSTALLED” message is displayed.

After installing tire sensors, check for leaks by coating the tire sensor, extension and valve stem with a solution of 1 part liquid soap to 2 parts water - look for bubbles which indicate a leak.

Sensor Deletion:

Use the UP and DOWN buttons to cycle through the tires.  A check mark indicates a sensor has been successfully installed on the tire previously.  When the blinking cursor is located on the tire sensor to delete then press ENTER.  Once completed a “SENSOR DELETED” message is displayed.

Deleting a Tire Sensor:

Tire Information Screen:

The tire information screen (see below) is the main screen that the driver will normally see.  It displays all tire pressures, tire temperatures, tire warnings, and tire sensor statuses.  The tire pressures are in PSI.

If a tire icon is blinking then there is a warning event such a low tire pressure, sensor missing, high tire pressure, high tire temperature, or sensor low battery.

Malfunction Indication Lamp (MIL):

In the event of low tire pressure(s) the optional external malfunction indication lamp will illuminate.  This is a signal to the driver or maintenance personnel of tire pressure or tire sensor issues and to take corrective action when possible.  To minimize driver distraction VIVID®can be configured to only display the tire information screen when the optional external button is pressed.

If the lamp is mounted so it can be seen externally then when the vehicle returns to the garage maintenance personnel can easily see if tire maintenance is required without having to measure individual tire pressure by hand or depend of feedback from the driver.
